Vale Tony Megens

Tony was one of the largely unseen members of our community.

Went to Aquinas but never played for the Old Collegians, but you could always find him on a Saturday afternoon in winter standing on the hill overlooking the bottom oval cheering on his favourite local side.  Generally with his two boys running around him.

Our thoughts are with Moira, Ben and Josh at this sad time.

RIP Tony…

Vale John Rogers

John Rogers died 25.6.19 aged 86

John was the Father of premiership captain, 200 game player and life member Craig and grandfather of the Rogers boys who run water and the boundary on match day.

Few people in our club’s history have left such an indelible mark as John. He was the illustrator of those wonderful caricatures that adorn the walls of our club room. Other than a premiership medallion, a John Rogers original was the most coveted award on …

Aquinas 13.7.85 defeated Parkside 6.9.45

After suffering their first loss of the season against Manningham last round, the Bloods were looking to bounce back and return to the winners list. Aquinas were up against Parkside away who were sitting 6th on the ladder. Despite their low position in standings, the Devils always provide a competitive matchup.

The game was delayed due to an unfortunate injury in the reserves game that required an ambulance to attend the ground, thus holding …

Round 7 Match Report

Womens

Aquinas 1.2.8 defeated by Williamstown 6.7.43

After copping a hiding the week before at Therry Penola the girls from Great Ryrie Street had spent the week licking their wounds and preparing for a big game against Willamstown CYMS. The CYs have had an interesting start to the 2019 campaign having their opening 3 matches in Division 1 before coming down a grade for Round 4 and beyond and taking all before them.

A terrific start from the Aquinas girls …

Vale John McCafferty

John like many fathers loved to go and watch his son Pat play football for Aquinas. He saw most of Pat’s 180 games, his premierships and was very proud when Pat was made a Life member.

Unlike many parents who watch their sons and daughters play, John always pitched in and did a job, goal umpire, timekeeper or his specialty interchange steward. He always was quick with encouragement and some homespun Irish advice.

It is with much sadness that all …

Seniors

Aquinas 18.10.118 defeated Richmond Central 8.11.59

The seniors took on old rivals Richmond Central at home in hope of keeping their unbeaten record alive. Despite sitting on the bottom of the ladder, Richmond have been playing competitive football, proving how tight Division 3 is this year.

The Snakes justified this statement as both teams went goal for goal in the first term, with the scores locked at …

Round 4 Match Report

Senior Men

Aquinas 12.14.86 defeated Emmaus St Leos 9.6.60

The Seniors came up against old rivals Emmaus St Leo’s in a top of the table clash. With both sides undefeated heading into this game, it was all set up for a cracking matchup.

The Bloods had other plans, opening the first term in emphatic fashion, booting 6 of the first 7 goals. Key forwards Jake Cawsey and Josh Robertson helped themselves to 2 first quarter goals apiece, giving their side …

Round 3 Match Report

Senior Men

Aquinas 16.14.110 defeated North Brunswick 10,11,71

Unfortunately our regular scribe for the senior team was on assignment in Bangkok covering a story about police corruption in the rice markets on Khaosan Road. Pretty stern stuff, tune in next week for that piece. This week’s match report is brought to you by the Scott Lycett of football journalism, he’s been waiting in the wings and he’s ready.

Heading to Allard Park in the picturesque surrounds of North Brunswick, the …

Round 2 Match Report

Women’s Seniors

Aquinas 6.6.42 defeated Old Carey 2.8.20

This week the Women’s side took on Old Carey. With the senior boys having a bye, it was great to see them come down and support the women in what was an important game for the girls to win and kick start their season.

Amber Saunders for her first season at Aquinas made her way up forward for the first time and kicked two goals off the bat, setting the standard for …
