Unfortunately it wasn’t our day at Casey Fields on Saturday as we lost 6.9.45 to 7.24.66 to a terrific Hawthorn side. The Citizens really came to play and kicking with the wind in the first quarter it was only poor kicking from the opposition which enabled us to go into the first break 12 points down. We were then outplayed again for much of the second quarter before 4 late goals and a levelling of the scores sparked hope within the players and supporters that we would come out on top after all.
Unfortunately the second half was much the same story as the first with the Citizens playing the conditions perfectly whilst we continually struggled with the wind and rain.
Despite the loss, the lucky loser finals system means we live to fight again. We will be playing Emmaus St Leos this week at Garvey Oval at Parade College Bundoora.
In the mean time the entire playing list is knuckling down and are ready for their biggest game of the season this week against the undefeated Animals. If we come with the same fight, tenacity and effort that we displayed in Round 16 against this side then we will be a massive chance of an upset win. We require all supporters to make the effort and cheer on the boys as we continue to strive for that elusive premiership.
