Hi All
As we come to the close of the 2022 season and all involved are looking forward to the summer break, I just wanted to give you all a quick rundown of the 2022.
We ended up with 3 x 5th places, 1 x 6th place and 1 x 7th place and although there was no finals appearances I still consider it a good year. To put it in perspective its our first full year up a grade for all sides. Our women finished with a 5th place each in their first year in B grade after both finishing as minor premiers in 2021 and not getting the pleasure of contesting there first Grand Final. A great effort against a much stiffer opposition this year. Our men’s seniors finished 6th and the reserves just missing on a finals birth in 5th place. In their first full year in Division 2 managing to defeat all of the lower sides quiet easily but not quite getting the rub of the green against the better sides in this division. Our U19’s finished 7th in their first year up a grade and have done well and gained some great experience against some of the longer term and established sides in these higher grades.
Our men’s teams had their vote count on Sunday just gone and I’m very pleased to announce ours wins for 2022 and congratulate them on a great year:
Seniors Reserves U19’s
1st – Jacob “Chompers” Costello – 87 1st – Leon Holewa – 62 1st – Harry Flack – 160
2nd – Josh Glennie – 84 2nd – Harry Kerr – 56.5 2nd – Ben Livingstone – 118
3rd – Matt Aver – 64 Equal 3rd – Patrick Smith – 53 3rd – Liam Choucri – 69
Equal 3rd – Toby Love – 53
Our women held their vote count day about 3 or 4 weeks ago and made the call to hold their last 4 rounds for Presentation night which is this coming Saturday so we’ll give you an update after that.
Regretfully we announce that our senior Coach Jarrod “Sharky” Fisher has made the call not to continue in his role into next season due to the pending addition to his family with his partner – Alex and wanting to concentrate on his family. Sharky started at The Bloods in 2017 as a senior player coming from Forest Hills and played in our 2017 and 19 premierships. He took up the reins as Senior Coach in 2021, after Ash Nulty took his opportunity at Carlton, and in his first year had the difficulties of the 2021 Covid year to deal with. Sharky leaves us in a much better place for him being involved with the Bloods and we look forward to seeing him around the place perhaps with his and Alex’s new little one running around in the tri panel on match day. We all thank you for your service over the journey and wish you all the very best to you and your families future endeavours.
We will be inviting any and all internal and external applicants to help fill the vacant role as Senior Coach and look forward to making announcements in the near future on all of our 5 coaching positions.
An update on JW Manson’s – Our venture to Manson’s is progressing well with the new pavilion currently being assembled up in Bendigo ready to be trucked down to Melbourne when the footings are in. The old pavilion is due to be demolished in late September early October and the area prepped after that ready for the installation. Once the building is put together after the Bendigo delivery, which is expected around December/January, is when the fit out will start and the likely hand over is expected sometime in April.
One of our biggest challenges this year has been with volunteers and too few having to do too much. I want to say a big thank you to all of our volunteers from our boundary umps, goal umps, field umps and team managers, along with all the others that help with the bar and Wednesday and Thursday night food serves. Great job. I promise to do my best to make sure you have some extra friends for next year. Anyone willing to help me with that promise can call me at any time.
Go Bloods
Regards – Ian
