After losing to ladder leading Emmaus St. Leos last week by just 2 points The Bloods were back on the winners list this week with a 20 point victory against Albert Park.
The win was set up in the first half with Aquinas going into the half time break leading by 38 points. This lead was in no small part due to Michael Connolly who set up 3 goals off his own boot in just his second game for the club since Round 4 2013. In that time we have played 49 matches and it is a true testament to Mick’s character how well he has endured his repeated injury set backs and has come back as a strong contributor to the team.
Heading into the last quarter leading by 44 points we took the foot off the pedal in the last quarter and allowed Albert Park to score 5 of their 10 goals to run out 20 point winners.
Best players were Matt Prouse in the backline, Pat O’Leary up forward and Ben Ryan who enjoyed switching between the ruck and centre half forward as required. James Morris, Daniel D’Angelo and Mick Connolly also featured.
Multiple goal kickers were Pat O’Leary and Jack Price with 3 each and Ben Ryan with 2 goals.
Unfortunately the Reserves lost by 10 points in the early game.
This week we face West Brunswick away in our final home and away game for the season before we set our minds towards our fourth consecutive D3 finals series.
We are guaranteed to be playing Hawthorn in the first week of finals regardless of results this weekend and we will advise all supporters of the venue and date of that game as soon as it comes to hand. Much like last season the venue and date will likely not be known until the week of the game.
