For the second week in a row the mighty Bloods pulled off a perfect week, 4 wins on the same day.

Seniors Match Report
The Aquinas seniors came up against the 3rd placed Canterbury in a must win clash at Aquinas College. Having been handed a 69 point walloping back in Round 6 the stakes were high. A win meant the Bloods finished the round a game behind 3rd place, a loss meant the season was over.
Off to a bad start with two consecutive Canterbury goals in the opening 5 minutes of play it wasn’t until the 12th minute when Sam ‘Gorgeous’ Scanlon slammed through the home sides first that we started to settle into the game. Another goal to Jake ‘John’ Cawsey late in the term meant the Bloods found themselves 15 points adrift at the first change.
A very low scoring second quarter ensued with Aquinas’ sole goal coming from the boot of young gun Michael ‘Prod’ Di Donato. 15 points was still the margin at ½ time and as the rain settled in for the day the men in red, black and green had plenty to do.
A great start to the third with goals to Cawsey and Daniel ‘Flippers’ Foley saw Aquinas back in the contest and the intensity had lifted a notch. The home side must have sensed what this game meant for their season as the tackling pressure continued to lift. The Canterbury side dropped off a little as a result and allowed Billy O’Loughlin to get on the end of a chain of play late in the quarter for a great team goal. 8 points the margin at ¾ time and the feeling around Bloods Stadium was one of hope.
An inspirational early goal to Jared Sund saw the scores tied with plenty of time left on the clock. Unfortunately the Cobras then snagged one and it was back to 7 points and the home side had it all to do. Many thought it wasn’t possible but the home side lifted another notch and as the driving rain made quick ball movement difficult they kept coming. Another goal from Foley tied the scores with just 6 minutes left on the clock before a mark to former club captain Lachy Barnes at the top of the arc saw him with a shot on goal. Barnes showed plenty of commitment and went back and slotted it from 50m out, the Bloods hit the lead for the first time in the match and they weren’t giving it up. A late party time goal to Cawsey saw the final siren sound with Aquinas deservedly in front and winners by 13 points.
Reserves Match Report
Keen to atone for their shock defeat in Round 6, the Aquinas lads came ready to play. A huge first quarter from Nick Spencer with 4 goals saw the home side go into the first break with a 32 point lead.
The Bloods piled on more of the pain in the second quarter and continued to keep running hard. Keeping the Cobras goalless for the quarter was testament to the great work of the backline. A 64 point margin at the main break meant the game was basically over but the Bloods wanted to keep pushing.
Unfortunately we took our throats off their necks slightly in the third quarter and only increased the margin by 11 points.
Despite the 75 point deficit at the final break the crowd finally got what they came to see. Former club favourite and now Cobras forward Jordan ‘Jaars’ Bayley matched up on club stalwart Jack McDonald in the Cobras goal square. The match up did not disappoint with many fans likening it to the best that Carey and Jakovich served up in the 90’s.
A final result of 20.13.133 to 3.7.25 was probably indicative of the day.
Women’s Match Report
The Women made their way out to the newly renovated Scammel Reserve to take on Oakleigh. There were good vibes in the rooms early as we prepared for a day out.
Karli Korbay played her first half in the ruck, as a small ruck she did well to win majority of taps and then turn into a 4th on baller. The Women put on a show early keeping Oakleigh scoreless in the first, Bloods 4 goals up going into the first break gave them a handy lead, and boy they were excited- they all celebrated the well earned goals with style.
The Women used the lead as an opportunity for development of players in new positions. Gemma Bishop up forward, Caitie Flanagan in the middle and Taylor Leslie played the second half in the ruck.
The Bloods began to kick away in the 3rd and again in the last- Izzy Sharma and Taylah Fieldler both snapped their first goals for the season, celebrations aplenty.
Oakleigh left with their head in their hands as the Bloods handed them a 57 point loss. SEN radio got a sniff of the win and KB gave the women a well deserved wrap.
The celebrations didn’t stop until Sunday night as Molly Sheehan put on a show at the Warrandyte Hotel.
The Women made history this week as their first consecutive win for the first Aquinas Women’s team- as well as the first consecutive quadruple win for the club.
The Women are hoping to continue their run as they take on top of the ladder Old Melburnians away next week.
U19’s Match Report
The Unders took on 5th placed Williamstown at Aquinas. Coach ‘Ox’ Glennie asked his players for the first goal of the game and they delivered, but they didn’t stop at 1, slamming on 8 of the best in a scintillating 1st term with Noyesy dominant, racking up 13 touches and a goal in the first 15 mins of the quarter, and the big Fridge slotting 2 of his own.
Things didn’t improve for Willy in the second as ‘Filters’ Reichart took over, dominating the term with 12 touches and 3 goals, the Bloods 12 goals to 1 up at the half.
The Bloods continued to make Willy look second rate in the 3rd as another 4 goals to 1 saw the lead blow out to nearly 90pts.
The last quarter only lasted 7 minutes as the ambulance was called for a Willimastown player who broke his humerus bone in 3 places preventing the margin from getting out past 100 points.
Best players were Noyes (38 touches) Reichart 4 goals, Williams, Robb, Toole, Grech and Farry.
Goalkickers Baxter, Costello, Mantel, Williams and Dwyer 2 each.
The Unders head down to the Peninsula this week for the top of the table clash, the winner to take top spot.
E&S Women’s Player of the Week
Congratulations to this week’s E&S Women’s Player of the Week Laura Weeks.
Laura has played much of the year on the wing and in the engine room and has adjusted to her first season of football with aplomb.
Her pace with or without the football and her manic tackling have been signatures of her game this season.
On Saturday Laura used her pace on the wing, provided an outlet all day and continued to hit targets in our forward line.
Well done Laura.
