Some technical difficulties delayed the publication of the Round 5 Match Reports

Seniors

Aquinas 18.10.118 defeated Richmond Central 8.11.59

The seniors took on old rivals Richmond Central at home in hope of keeping their unbeaten record alive. Despite sitting on the bottom of the ladder, Richmond have been playing competitive football, proving how tight Division 3 is this year.

The Snakes justified this statement as both teams went goal for goal in the first term, with the scores locked at 26 apiece. Tyson Noyes was dominant in the first quarter (and the entire game), much to the dismay of the opposition coach.

The Bloods then kicked into gear, booting 7 goals to 0 in the second quarter, putting a dominant stance on the game. The forward pocket duo in Billy O’loughlin and Hayden Judge helped themselves to 2 goals each for the term, giving their side a 7-goal buffer at the main break.

The Snakes slithered their way back into the game, kicking 2 early goals to reduce the margin to 30 points. However young gun Josh ‘Robbo’ Robertson had a purple patch and put the game to bed, kicking 3 consecutive goals within 7 minutes of play.

The heat went out of the game in the last quarter as both teams went through the motions until the final siren. The senior Bloods continued their unbeaten run for season 2019 with a 10-goal victory over Richmond.

Tyson Noyes was best afield, with Lachlan Barnes and Russell Foster putting together solid games across the half back line.

The boys have a bye this weekend, and will enjoy a much needed rest before they take on arch rivals Manningham Cobras at home.

Women

Aquinas 4.5.29 defeated Powerhouse 3.5.23

This week the women found themselves taking on the fantastically named Powerhouse Slushies in what felt like girls playing women when matched up on the ground. The Irish women of Powerhouse weren’t afraid to assert their physical dominance on field.

The Bloods did well to use their pace to move the ball down field. It was a day of firsts for the women of Aquinas, Courtney Weeks starting full forward helped herself to her first goal for the year. Kalen Winters kicked her first goal for the year in a pivotal moment for the game, keeping the women up by 14 points at the final change.

The highlight of the quarter though was captain courageous Taylor Leslie being absolutely coat hangered with the biggest bump seen at Bloods Stadium in many years, she took a few seconds to remember where she was, bounced back to her feet and won a contested ball just a moment later. Guts personified.

Laura Mcugh with her first goal (2) for the season, she knows her way around the ball, and finds herself clearing packs like she’s done it before. The women held on to take the win by a solitary goal just as Powerhouse came out strong in the 4th.

A disappointing end to the day with one of the women’s inaugural and definitely most loved players Molly ‘Shifter’ Sheehan, playing in her last game for the season before she embarks on a new adventure overseas. What a treat it’s been playing along side her, we look forward to having her back soon!

Reserves

Aquinas 8.8.56 lost to Richmond Central 9.6.60

Apollo 11 dies. The two’s were at their best for the opening 15 minutes against the Snakes of Richmond.

Unfortunately the dreaded second quarter shakes chimed in and then continued on into the 3rd quarter. It was a very disappointing performance.

With very limited numbers on the bench the lads lifted for the final term, eventually falling by under a goal – but this only served to highlight how poor the middle two quarters were, when the game could’ve been put beyond reach.

A nice kick up the bum that reinforces the amount of work needed to be a consistently brilliant team!

U19’s

Aquinas 18.20.128 defeated Preston Bullants 9.6.60

19s took on Preston Bullants at Preston keen to atone for last week’s loss. We hit them hard early, 5 goals to 2 a good start.

A poor second saw us kick 1.7 to 4 points, our poor conversion keeping Preston in the contest.

A 12 goal to 7 2nd half saw us home by 68 points and a well deserved victory.

Best Players Glennie, Grech, Costello, Smith & Cawsey with Hodgey good in his 1st game.
